Happy Days Cal (3): Tic-Tac-Toe Square

Welcome to Part 3 of our Happy Days Blanket Crochet Along!

It is not too late to join in the fun!     The patterns will remain on my blog - so you can crochet along at your own pace.

These are the links to:

PART 1 (Hakuna Matata Mandala Square) (where you will find all the necessary info about this project)

and

Part 2 (Sunny Flower Square)

Some of the lovely ladies who are crocheting along were kind enough to share their photos with us:

Our third square is the Tic-Tac-Toe square - a nice relaxing square to crochet consisting of an alternating mesh row (the noughts) and a crossover dc row (the crosses).    We will be making FOUR of these!

(This pattern is great for a giant granny square.    Just keep repeating rows 3 and 4 until your square is the required size)

Two of my Tic-Tac-Toe squares for the Happy Days Blanket!

I had planned to lay all the squares out on the grass for a photo shoot but the wind has been blowing like crazy all day (think we might be getting a cold snap).

I did manage to take a photo of the designs I have made so far (you can see Part 4's square peeking out under the Tic-Tac-Toe Square).     This is going to be SUCH a happy blanket!!

I will post the pattern for the fourth square - The Saturday Morning Square - on Friday, 22 August 2014.

Don't forget to post photos of your progress on my Zooty Owl Facebook page so that I can share them with my next post!

Happy crocheting!

  1. On number 2 square you had us create ten of them in a smaller size. Is it possible that you have a smaller square version of number 1 and number 3 that would come out to be the same size as square 2? I prefer to do the smaller squares. I am designing larger squares as a design on the hook with crochet in common group at the moment so having smaller squares would be nice being the ones we create on the hook are large ones. Let me know if there is a way to make a smaller version of the two squares or not. I just love all your work!!!

    1. Hi Kathryn! On Square 3 - If you crochet Rows 1 - 6; and then Row 13 (giving you 7 rows in total) the square will be the same size as Square 2. Square 1 is a bit tricky as the Mandala Part in itself is a bit larger than Square 1. You could substitute my "Circle in Square Pattern" http://zootyowlcards.blogspot.com/2014/03/circles-in-squares-baby-groovyghan-cal4.html for square 1. Please post photos on my Zooty Owl Facebook page if you would like to be included in the next line up!

  2. Hi Zelna! thankyou so much for all your trouble! How many must we make of square 3? I'm actually too ashamed to ask because you are going through so much trouble with the patterns but is it possible to do a summery at the end to make it easier to copy and paste for printing? i still like to print the patterns i'm making. At the moment i have to do a lot of editing to save on ink.. xxx

    1. Hi Adele - we will be making four of the Tic-Tac-Toe Square! Thank you for being so considerate. I am happy to help. The little dramas caused by a few people are probably unavoidable, so please never feel ashamed to ask for help or clarification! I want you to enjoy crocheting my patterns as much as I enjoy designing them!! There are a lot of exciting improvements to my blog in the works - one of them being "easy print PDF's". I still have a bit of work to do on this, and as soon as it is up and running I will post a notification on my Zooty Owl Facebook Page! Please bear with me in the meantime! xxx
