Beach Umbrella Mandala

Skill Level:   Easy 

Materials:  600g Raeesah "Cotton Soft" DK (100% Cotton) (Stylecraft Cotton Classique DK is a good alternative) 

Hook:  4.00 mm 

Size:  40cm in diameter

Foundation:  3ch, sl st to form a circle OR make a magic circle

Row 1:  3ch (counts as 1dc);  11 dc into circle;  sl st into 3rd ch at start to close (12dc )

Row 2:  Join yarn in sp between any 2 dc posts;   5ch (counts as 1dc, 2ch);  (1dc into next space between dc posts, 2ch) x 11.   (12 x 1dc, 2ch).   sl st into third of start 5ch to close.  Break off yarn

Row 3:  Join yarn in any 2ch space;   3ch (counts as 1dc), 2dc into same space as join 2ch;  (3dc into next 2ch space, 2ch ) x 11.   (12 x 3dc, 2ch).   sl st into top of start 3ch to close.  Break off yarn

Row 4:   Join yarn in top of first dc on any 3dc grouping;    3ch (counts as 1dc);  2dc into next dc, 1dc into next dc, 2ch;   (1dc into first dc on next 3dc grouping, 2dc into next dc, 1dc into next dc, 2ch) x 11.   (12 x 4dc, 2ch).   sl st into top of start 3ch to close.    Break off yarn.

Row 5:  Join yarn in top of first dc of any 4dc grouping;   3ch (counts as 1dc),  1dc into next dc;   1dc into space before next dc, 1dc into each of next 2dc, 2ch;  (1dc into each of next 2dc,   1dc into space before next dc;   1dc into each of next 2dc,  2ch) x 11.   (12 x 5dc, 2ch).   sl st into top of start 3ch to close.   Break off yarn.

Row 6:  Join yarn in top of first dc of any 5dc grouping;  3ch (counts as 1dc),  1dc into next dc;  2dc into next dc;  1dc into each of next 2dc, 2ch;  (1dc into each of next 2dc,  2dc into next dc;  1dc into each of next 2dc, 2ch).   (12 x 6dc, 2ch).   sl st into top of start 3ch to close.   Break off yarn.

Row 7:  Join yarn in top of  1st dc of any 6dc grouping;  3ch (counts as 1dc),  1dc into each of next 2dc,  1dc into space before next dc;  1dc into each of next 3dc, 2ch;  (1dc into each of next 3dc,  1dc into space before next dc;  1dc into each of next 3dc, 2ch) x 11.   (12 x 7dc, 2ch).  sl st into top of start 3ch to close.   Break off yarn.

Row 8:  Join yarn in top of 1st dc of any 7dc grouping;   3ch (counts as 1dc),  1dc into each of next 2dc, 2dc into next dc;  1dc into each of next 3dc, 2ch;  (1dc into each of next 3dc,  2dc into next dc;  1dc into each of next 3dc, 2ch) x 11.   (12 x 8dc, 2ch).   sl st into top of start 3ch to close.   Break off yarn.

Row 9:   Join yarn in top of 1st dc of any 8dc grouping:   3ch (counts as 1dc),  1dc into each of next 3dc;  1dc into space before next dc,  1dc into each of next 4dc, 2ch;  (1dc into each of next 4dc, 1dc into space before next dc; 1dc into each of next 4dc, 2ch) x 11.  (12 x 9dc, 2ch),   sl st into top of start 3ch to close.   Break off yarn,.

Row 10:  Join yarn in top of 1st dc of any 9dc grouping;  3ch (counts as 1dc), 1dc into each of next 3dc, 2dc into next dc; 1dc into each of next 4dc, 2ch;  (1dc into each of next 4dc,  2dc into next dc, 1dc into each of next 4dc, 2ch) x 11.  (12 x 10dc, 2ch).   sl st into top of start 3ch to close.   Break off yarn.

Row 11:  Join yarn in top of 1st dc of any 10dc grouping;  3ch (counts as 1dc), 1dc into each of next 4dc  1dc into space before next dc;  1dc into each of next 5dc, 2ch;  (1dc into each of next 5dc, 1dc into space before next dc;  1dc into each of next 5dc, 2ch) x11.   (12 x 11dc, 2ch).   sl st into top of start 3ch to close.   Break off yarn.

Row 12:  Join yarn in top of 1st dc of any 11dc grouping;  3ch(counts as 1dc), 1dc into each of next 4dc,  2dc into next dc, 1dc into each of next 5dc, 2ch;  (1dc into each of next 5dc, 2dc into next dc, 1dc into each of next 5dc, 2ch) x11.  (12 x 12dc, 2ch).   sl st into top of start 3ch to close.   Break off yarn.

Row 13:  Join yarn in any 2ch space;  5ch (counts as 1dc, 2ch);  [skip next space between dc posts (skip 2dc posts), 1dc into next space, 2ch] x5;   {1dc into next 2ch space, 2ch,  [skip next space between dc posts (skip 2dc posts), 1dc into next space, 2ch] x5} x11.  sl st into 3rd of start 5ch to close.  Break off yarn. 

Row 14:  Join yarn in any 2ch space;  3ch (counts as 1dc), 2dc into same sp as join.  (2dc into next 2ch sp;  3dc into next 2ch sp) x35;  2dc into next 2ch sp;  sl st into top of start 3ch to close.   (36 x 3dc, 2dc groups).   Break off yarn. 

Row 15:   Join yarn in space between any 2dc and 3dc grouping:  5ch (counts as 1hdc, 3ch);  (1hdc into next space between groupings, 3ch) x71;  sl st into 2nd of 5ch start to close.   (72 x 3ch spaces).   Break off yarn. 

Row 16:  Join yarn in any 3ch sp above a 2dc grouping;  3ch (counts as 1dc), 1dc into same sp;  (3dc into next 3ch sp;  2dc into next 3ch sp) x35;  3dc into next 3ch sp;  sl st into top of start 3ch to close.   (36 x 2dc, 3dc groups.)   Break off yarn. 

Row 17:   Join yarn in space between any 2dc and 3dc grouping;  7ch (counts as 1trc, 3ch),  (1trc into next space between groupings, 3ch) x71;  sl st into 4th of start 7ch to close.  (72, trc, 3ch loops).   Break off yarn. 

Row 18:  Join yarn in any 3ch sp above a 2dc grouping, (6dc into next 3ch loop;  sl st into next 3ch loop) x35;  sl st into join to close.   (36 x 6dc shell, sl st groupings).   Break off yarn.

  3. Thank you so much for the free pattern for the Beach Umbrella Mandala. I love the design and I have a round ottoman I am going to make this and use it to cover the ottoman. :)
