Friday I went on a little spur of the moment road trip with hubby and
I wanted a fuss free project to keep me busy during the drive.
Scissors are banned on road trips as hubby is paranoid that I
accidentally stab myself again (during a road trip a couple of months
back I was snipping a thread, we hit a pothole, a very common occurrence
on South African Roads, and I embedded the scissors in my left wrist).
While hubby was planning the route I quickly grabbed some variegated
yarn, started two triangles to make "scarfy" versions of a shawl I
made a few weeks ago, and popped them into my SHABBY PROJECT BAG
I managed to finish both scarves, edge them and make a few little flowers - with a few cm of yarn to spare - before we arrived back home. Yesterday morning I sewed the flowers on with some beads and a few braids and Ta-dah!
For the greenish scarf I used 2 x 50g Elle Family Knit Classic (Courtelle) colour "Sushi" with a 4.50mm hook and a 5.00mm hook.
For the pinkish scarf I used 100g Elle Escapade DK (Acrylic) colour "Fuschia Falls" with a 4.00mm hook and a 4.50mm hook
Spinning my wheels a bit yesterday - waiting for the ladies to finish testing the patterns for my Zooty Owl Trivets and my Dahlia Mandala - so I thought I would make another one of these while I wait.
For the brightly coloured scarf I used Elle Family Knit DK Classic (Courtelle) 2 x 50g with a 4.50mm and a 5.00mm hook.
I worked up the pattern and crocheted yet another Road Trip Scarf while making the photo tutorial
ROAD TRIP SCARF PATTERN
YARN: Elle Pullskein Print DK (100% Acrylic) (any soft 8 ply yarn would work well)
COLOUR: Hunter
HOOKS: 4.50mm and 5.00mm
EXTRAS: Wooden beads
SIZE: 106cm Wide; 48cm long
(The pattern is of such a nature that you could easily make the scarf bigger - even shawl size - by just adding more rows!)
SKILL LEVEL: Easy
PATTERN TERMS: US
Using 4.50mm hook
Foundation: 6ch
Using 5.00mm hook:
EDGING
I made a video to demonstrate this edging (no sound),
which I first used for my BABY GROOVYGHAN
(Note: I use single crochet for the baby groovghan and for the Road Trip Scarf I use Double Crochet!)
If you are having trouble watching the video here - I have saved it on my Zooty Owl Facebook page too - you will find it under "Photos"
NOTE: If for some reason you are unable to view the video on this page - I have it stored on my Zooty Owl Facebook page - go to photos and then Videos
EMBELLISHMENTS
I made 8 flowers, attaching 2 at each point and 4 randomly around the "v"
Attach the flowers to the scarf, with a small wooden bead as the centre of the flower
I have been messing around with my camera settings for indoor photos - the days are way too short now as we approach winter solstice. I don't quite know what I have done but I seem to have achieved a bit of a "neon" effect?!
I LOVE variegated yarn and I LOVE these scarves!!
My elder daughter is very petite and she really feels the cold. I made her a scarf with Colormatic Aran, and embellished it with my SUNFLOWER APPLIQUE
(A few of you lovely crafty people are having
trouble getting started with the Road Trip Scarf - I have put together a
little TUTORIAL WITH CLEARER PHOTOS (I used solid colour yarn - as it
is sometimes difficult to see the stitches especially on smaller
screens)
The print friendly version of the pattern can be found HERE

THE DAY TRIP SCARF
In 2014 when I created my Road Trip scarf I had no idea that it would be
so ridiculously popular. I had a lot of requests for a longer scarf
along similar lines. I finally got around to it - the result is a long
“baktus style” scarf with two possible edgings. Either a frilly edge for
a whimsical look or a zig-zag bobble edging. (The original Road Trip
Scarf edging and trims would also work well with this design)
The
Day Trip Scarf differs from the Road Trip Scarf in that it increases
steadily in length and gradually in width, whereas the Road Trip Scarf
increases evenly in length and width.
This version can also easily
be made on a day journey as a passenger. The project is small and
lightweight and can be squeezed into bag, making it a wonderful
“take-along” project for a journey by car, plane, train or bus.
The Day Trip Scarf is a very economical project requiring just under 300 metres or 330 yards of DK / 8ply / light worsted weight yarn.
Because the pattern works up so quickly and is so economical to make, it is the perfect end of year / Christmas gift.

Beautiful! Thank you for sharing you pattern. I'll be off to the store tomorrow to buy yarn. I didn't know how to input my name: Carol Howden, therefore it is listed as Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Carol! Hope you enjoy making this!
DeleteHope you enjoyed you're tip I just love the pink scarf, so pretty love the little flowers, thanks for sharing the pattern
ReplyDeleteClare xx
Not a very scenic trip Clare - but the company and the crochet was great!!
DeleteIt's beautiful! thank you for the pattern :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteOn row 3 you say to crochet one dc, ch 3, one dc in the 3ch. But looking at the picture it shows: 2 dc, ch3, 2dc in the 3 chain.
ReplyDeleteJust thought you want to know that the picture shows 2 dc in the 3 chain of the prior row.
Hi Martha! I think it looks like that because the last dc is so close to the centre. But it is definitely 1dc, 3ch 1d into the 3ch. Hope you get sorted - let me know!
DeleteGreat tutorial! Pics are always good:) Thanks for sharing! meemaw crochets:)
ReplyDeleteOh gosh Zelna, these are absolutely beautiful! You always manage to make something with just that little bit of extra charm - the flowers and beads really set this apart from all the other scarf patterns out there! I love love love it! No need to send this pattern to your regular testers, I have a feeling a few of us will be testing it out for you this week... ;-) Thank you for sharing this pattern, and stay safe on those car journeys! Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteThank you Chrissie! I have seen quite a few posted on Facebook - and they have all turned out fabulously!
DeleteJust found your blog and I love it!! Just dragged you onto my bookmarks bar so I can find you easily. Will be making this lovely shawl sometime this week :)
ReplyDeleteHi Elkie! Please post a photo of your finished project on my Zooty Owl Facebook page. Would love to see how it turns out!
DeleteAs usual, a beautiful scarf!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I love variegated yarn too ....
ReplyDeletePat xx
would this work with the fingering type yarn? love this scraf!!!
ReplyDeleteIt would definitely work - I think it would drape very well in a thinner yarn. Just keep on repeating row 4 until it is the size you want!
DeleteI started one last night up to about row 16 as I'm a beginner and not very quick. I'm loving it so far and your pattern (even before edited) was clear and easy to follow. Thanks so much for sharing x x
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Emma! Please post a photo on my Zooty Owl Facebook page when you are finished!!
DeleteI am feeling very stupid because I am not understanding the instructions. I am stuck at row 1. I really want to make this.
ReplyDeleteHi Lindsey. All the stitches in row 1 are worked into the very first chain of the beginning 6 chain. Does this make sense - if you are still confused just let me know!
DeleteI am too having a wee bit of a hard time... understanding pattern I know it east tho.... can you do a youtube tute maybe a short one on how to start the scarf & any important parts...??? I so want to do this its a gift to myself & I was really going to try & make it on a road trip next wk..Ha! so am a little imtiadated...so I can use any help I can get...LOL but am so in love w/this pattern & Thank you so,so much for making this Free Pattern for us all to have!!! :)
DeleteI just finished a scarf and now I am working on the flowers, but I wanted to tell you I love, love, love the cute braid edging. The link to the video didn't work for me but the instructions were good so hopefully I did it right. It looks nice anyway. Thanks again for sharing your beautiful talent.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! I did fix the link (gremlin got in there somehow)!
DeleteC'est très très très à mon goût! Beaux choix de couleurs. Félicitations!
ReplyDeleteLucie
Help! I am having trouble with the last row (row 34)
ReplyDeleteThank you
Hi Martha! What are you struggling with (did you watch the video??)
DeleteHi, I am also confused about row 34. I understand the stitch described, but, on this row only, there is no mention of how to handle the point (i.e., half-way mark). Could you describe what to do?
DeleteWow! The variegated yarn really makes a difference. So special. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe video takes me to granny square blanket or blocks. I need to watch it as I am struggling with the edging.
ReplyDeleteHi Jocelyn - I keep having trouble with this link. I have fixed it again! This is where you can find the video if the link still does not work: http://zootyowlcards.blogspot.com/2014/05/border-and-edging-baby-groovyghan-cal-9.html
DeleteYes, I got it. It helps when your mind is fresh. After an 8 hr day work. lol
ReplyDeleteAbout to finish the edging.
Absolutely gorgeous, and it works up quickly! Since you were kind enough to share this pattern with the crafting community, I would also like to share a helpful tip. Pack a spare pair of nail clippers with your travel kit. They are a cheap and safe alternative to scissors. Even hubby should approve :)
ReplyDeleteVery good idea! Thank you!
DeleteHi, I am just finishing your scarf, it is awesome, thanks for the pattern. Just to say that the video worked fine for me. .
ReplyDeletebeautiful color.. beautiful scarf!
ReplyDeleteHi, I just finished your scarf, it is wonderful, thank you so much for the pattern. I love it. Made it out of Red Heart Boutique Treasure and It's beautiful. Thanks again !!!
ReplyDeleteHow awful about getting stabbed by the scissors it is one of my biggest concerns in the car too. I have one of these, maybe you should get one too

I love your patterns.
Such a good idea! Thanks Joanne!

ReplyDeleteI love this scarf and as soon as I am done with my south bay I will make this scarf!

ReplyDeleteLove this pattern! My husband and I will be taking a road trip here soon and while he is driving I am going to try and do this. Thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteThis really is the perfect project for the car! Once you get the hang of it you hardly even need to look at your work! Enjoy your trip! Safe journey!
DeleteSoooooo want to do this. Thought I was on a roll with it when the point appeared. Then got to the turn and chain 4 2dc into 1 ch sp; ok so far, but don't know where to go now !! Very disappointed in myself, it's such a beautiful shawl. Please can you help me ? Mary.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary - sorry I took sooooo long to get back to you! Please PM me on my Zooty Owl Facebook Page (it will be easier for me to give you some step by step help there!)
DeleteVery pretty! ♥ Nice pattern & colors and the embellishments are so lovely. Thanks for sharing & have a cozy Sunday! Nata
ReplyDeleteLove them all! I have been waiting for a chance to start this. 14 days post op and ready now. I was also searching to see if you had a child's pinch in this style?
ReplyDeleteHi Debby! I don't have any children's patterns at the moment - something I plan to remedy in the future!!
DeleteThank you for sharing this quick, easy and oh so beautiful scarf pattern. I am making it for my sisters birthday with Aslan Trends Litoral yarn and 5.5 & 6.0 (I & J) hooks and it's coming out fantastic! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteDid you just sew the buttons/beads to the centers of the flowers, or did you use the yarn for the braids to hold it on, then pull the strands through?
ReplyDeleteI sew the buttons on with the start tail from the Magic Circle!
DeleteHey, this scarf made my company for three evenings, great pattern, very fresh! I couldn't figure out the beginning, so I made magic ring...
ReplyDeleteWhen I am done with embellishments, will send the picture!
Thanks, good job:-D
Lezu
Thank you for the pattern. How much yarn does the basic scarf need?
ReplyDeleteOops just re-read your blog page and saw the requirements for each scarf.
ReplyDeleteyou, madam, are an unbelievable artist! thanks so much for unselfishly sharing your wonderful patterns, when I'm sure you could make good money selling them. they are fantastic!
ReplyDeletethis is adorable - thanks for sharing the pattern!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am on the last row(border) and it just isn't clicking- I believe it's row 34. Does anybody have any hints?
ReplyDeleteI am on the last row also and I don't understand it. Please help.
DeleteThank you for sharing this lovely pattern, I'm making one for my Aunt while she undergoes chemo. I'm having trouble understanding the edging, I follow up to the chain five then drop after that I'm lost.
ReplyDeleteHi Britanny - your comment seems to have gotten lost among the others and I only saw now I had not replied. So sorry about that. Have you watched the video? If you are having trouble watching it on this page I have stored it on my Zooty Owl Facebook page under "Photos" - if you still need help just send me a message on Facebook or leave me another comment!
DeleteTOTALLY Love Them.Cant wait to make one!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your talent and creativity with us
Zelna, Thank you very much for the Road Trip Scarf pattern! I finally made my first one. I believe your pattern is currently trending on the crochet facebook groups - everyone is making them! Thank you so much for sharing and for the inspiration! I love all of your work and will continue to follow it!
ReplyDeleteYour crochet friend, Kimberly
Hi Kimberly! So glad you enjoyed the pattern. It does seem to be showing up everywhere!!! Please post a photo on my Zooty Owl Facebook page so that I can put it into the share album!
DeleteThank you for this beautiful pattern. This is a scarf I'm going to make !!
ReplyDeleteCan't find the link to the edging. I am stuck at the edging.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure why the video is not working on your side Becky - I have had a few people test it (just click on the arrow in the black box) and they say it is working fine! I have posted it on my Zooty Owl Facebook Page too - perhaps you would rather watch it there! Let me know
DeleteHi I'm trying to finish this beautiful scarf and I'm having a problem getting the border done plus I can't find the video is there a link to it? Thank you
ReplyDeleteI am not sure why the video is not working on your side Tracy - I have had a few people test it (just click on the arrow in the black box) and they say it is working fine! I have posted it on my Zooty Owl Facebook Page too - perhaps you would rather watch it there! Let me know!
DeleteHi, I love this pattern - thankyou! Although I am currently on row 25 and my 100g DK ball of yarn is clearly not going to make the 32 rows required + border?! Anyone else found this? x
ReplyDeleteHi Amy - I did not use more than 100g with any of the Elle DK Yarns. I used Kismet Funky Stripes DK and came up really short - I had to do the last two rows with one of the colours in the variegation. (Elle has about 300m on each of their 100g balls). When I used Colourmatic Aran (10ply) I used close to 200g and the scarf was not all that much bigger than the ones made in DK. There are a fair number of people who came up short for the last two or three. I do think it has to do with the thickness of the yarn (DK is not always the same thickness) and the yardage on the balls.
DeleteThank you for sharing and leaving all the helpful tips and videos!!! Simply stunning!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. Please post a photo on my Zooty Owl Facebook page if you do make this one!
DeleteDe size is 106 x 48 cm. Is that after finishing the edgeor before finishing the edge?
ReplyDeleteGreetz, Jolande
Hi Jolande! The measurements include the edging but exclude the braids!
DeleteI love your scarf I am trying it know ,had a little trouble seeing it at first ,but I got it so thanks
ReplyDeleteGlad you got sorted! Please send me a photo when you are done so that I can share it on my Zooty Owl Facebook Page!
DeleteIf you have to cut thread while you are on a road trip or airplane I use a nail clipper it works because when you fly they do not allow scissors on a plane
ReplyDeleteHi there! Thanks for this great pattern, I'm almost finished :) I would like to watch the video on the edging but it won't play :(
ReplyDeleteHi Kiara! I have posted a copy of the video on my Zooty Owl Facebook Page under "photos" - if you still need help just leave me a message on Facebook or post another comment here!
DeleteI joined Crochet Camp 2013 on Facebook during the last 4 weeks as I have been of work with shingles and saw a post today of one of the members who have made your amazing Road Trip Scarf using Noro and so followed on to your blog as I have some Noro and want to make something for my daughter's birthday on 29th August! I have only started to crochet recently and hope I can follow your instructions and do your lovely scarf justice. Thank you so much for sharing and I will try to take a photo of my attempt.
ReplyDeleteHello. I have a quick question regarding the road trip scarf - is it possible to use a fingerling or sock weight yarn and just add enough rows to make it big enough? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi! Most definitely!!! It looks lovely in the lighter weight yarns! The beauty of this pattern is you can even make it shawl size!
DeleteThank you so much, just made my first scarf, it was my first item reading a pattern, I would love to download this as keep looking at the computer is difficult, is there anyway of downloading it, I tried the link and it doesn't work, many thanks
ReplyDeleteHi! Experiencing a bit of a glitsch with the blogger / pdf set-up - hope to have it sorted out soon!
DeleteZelna, you mentioned something about your one photo looking like it has a neon effect. When I look at it, it looks like thee is too much of the red hue in it. I'm not sure how to tell you to correct this on your camera. I love photography, and I also play around with the different settings with photo editing programs. When I HAVE played with the RGB settings, I have made my photos too brass if the Red setting was too high. I hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteAh thanks for the photo advice - this is good to know. I have no idea what I did - and I accidentally seem to have fixed it now too! When I have a bit of time I will go back and play around again!
DeleteHello Zelna, thank you for sharing such an inspiring scarf, I love it. I finished my edge differently as i was running low on yarn, I added a picot border, it looks good! I am working on the finishing touches, and would like to know what length of yarn you used for the twisted braids. Thanks again... Linda in Canada.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda! I love picots! Please post a photo on my Zooty Owl Facebook Page - I would love to see how it turned out. I used various lengths for the braids (random) - the longest is probably about 36 cm (before twisting)
DeleteOops, wanna know when you reply. :)
ReplyDeletedo you have this written out without photo tutorial? i want to make it but can't sit at the computer to do so, and it is such a gorgous piece!! if i could print the pattern out it would be great...you did awesome:)
ReplyDeleteHi! Experiencing a bit of a glitsch with the blogger / pdf set-up - hope to have it sorted out soon!
DeleteJust found this blog and love it! Thanks for the pattern. Do you think I can use worsted weight or should I stick with DK?
ReplyDeleteHi SusanJoy! Worsted weight works brilliantly! That is equivalent to our Aran weight (10ply) - I made a scarf using Colourmatic Aran and it turned out lovely! (I did use quite a bit more yarn though - almost 200G) and the scarf was not that much bigger than the ones I made with DK
DeleteOnce I stopped beating myself up over misreading the pattern, I was so pleased to get it started. This is a scarf I do believe i will be making plenty of. I love the way it looks and it works up so fast and so easy! So many Than mm s for sharing this Lovely pattern. God bless.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! Please post a photo on my Zooty Owl Facebook page! I would love to see what you have made!
DeleteI would like a copy of this pattern, but not all of the extra stuff that come with it when trying to print from your blog. Would you please help.
ReplyDeleteHi! Experiencing a bit of a glitsch with the blogger / pdf set-up - hope to have it sorted out soon
DeleteHaving some trouble with row 34. The video is not working. Where can I get help/pic to finish my scarf? HELP!
ReplyDeleteHi if you are having trouble watching the video off the blog post I have posted it on my Zooty Owl Facebook page too - If you go to "Photos" you will see it there. Let me know if you still need help!
DeleteJust gorgeous! I really, rally, really . . . I can make this soon!!! Love it. :)
ReplyDeleteHi there. Just wanted to thank you for posting this pattern. I live with chronic pain, and started your scarf to get my mind focused on something new, and found it such a soothing and relaxing pattern repeat to do. Thank you for making the past couple of days nicer xx
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome!!
DeleteI just made this and am on to make another...I LOVE it..thank you so much for sharing this great pattern!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! Please post a photo on my Zooty Owl Facebook page!
DeleteI would make one but with all the comments regarding the edge I'm afraid to. How about a video of the shawl too.
ReplyDeleteThe edging is quite easy to do! If you have trouble viewing the video on this post, you can find a copy on my Zooty Owl Facebook Page - "photos" then "albums" then "videos". Just message me on Facebook if you need any help! I am busy making a simplified version and video of the scarf!
DeleteI am working on a road trip scarf and am so excited to see it finished
ReplyDeletePlease post a photo on my Zooty Owl Facebook page I would love to see how it turns out!
DeleteI LOVE this design! I really need to work one up one of these days. :) Thank you so much for sharing this pattern as well as your many colorful creations!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Michelle!
DeleteI have just started my very first road trip scarf, if I can do it anyone can..... I am a complete novis, your pattern is very easy to follow, I hope mine turns out as lovely as yours. thank you for sharing this with us xx
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Please post a photo on my Zooty Owl Facebook page - I would love to see!
DeleteSuch a pretty pattern! Referring to your comment about not taking scissors in the car, I take nail clippers to cut my yarn! They have rounded edges and can only open a couple of millimetres, so no danger of stabbing yourself!
ReplyDeleteA really good idea - and something I always carry with me!
Deletethis is pretty, You should check out the clover thread cutters, they are blade less
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry! I was having a look at the clover crochet hooks on Amazon the other day and I happened to see the thread cutter. I am definitely going to invest in one!
DeleteThanks! I am so looking forward to making these as gifts from some of my friends!
ReplyDeleteYou need to carry round point scissors in your bag, NOT sharp pointed ones! I buy them on sale to have extras & good to have for traveling by airlines....regulations, etc. I once saw a big box at airport full of little pocket knives & sharp pointy scissors! The SMALLEST cutter you will ever have is an empty dental floss container. The little blade on it is sharp enough to cut yarn, & you're supposed to leave a tail to weave into work to hide it. Those fancy, heavy, ornate, round pendant cutters are BANNED with Alaska Airlines! The tiny screw in center back of pendant can be removed exposing a VERY SHARP circular blade that could be used as a weapon!
ReplyDeleteCurious.... I understand the scarf can be made at any size, but how much yarn did you use to make yours?
ReplyDeleteHi Brenda! 100g DK (300m / 330 yards)
Deletegreaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ideas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm on the fifth scarf now. I love this pattern. I live in hot south Texas and I don't know if it will ever get cold enough for me to wear any of these but if it does, I'm ready. Thank you for sharing your creation, I truly enjoy making these scarves and each one is unique. I've used 5 different yarns and they all look so different most people will never know it was the same pattern.
ReplyDeleteLove your design....but I am a little confused with your photograph explaining how to crochet row 34...in the photograph row 34 is attaching itself to the last row 32....and row 33 is not depicted....is this another way of making this scarf., hope I am making sense... looking forward to hearing from you. x
ReplyDeleteHello there I sent you a message earlier that I was having trouble with your pattern regarding row 33 and 34, I could'nt quite work it out....but on going through it i Have worked this all out....I love these scarves so lovely.... thank you.
ReplyDeleteThanks!!! my work with your instructions! http://engraciascrap.blogspot.de/2014/08/apurando-el-tiempo-de-descanso.html
ReplyDeletehow many yards are in the 100 grams
ReplyDeleteHi Melinda! 330 yards (300 metres)
DeleteLooking forward to trying this!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video on the 2nd border! I'm on my 3rd scarf!
ReplyDeleteWhere is the video. I can't find it.
DeleteI hope to finish my first scarf in the next couple of days. Love the pattern. I have to make a few extra rows as I am using a smaller hook. Will post photo when done.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the pattern.
So I have a random ball of worsted weight knitpicks Chroma, do you think it would be enough to make this scarf?
ReplyDeleteI used 300m / 330 yards on the 8ply which is light worsted weight. The scarf I made with Aran / 10ply or Medium Worsted Weight used up about 500m / 550 yards - just check your yardage before you start.
DeleteBeautiful! Thank you so much for sharing. I just finished one using your pattern. I am so please with the results.
ReplyDeletelove this pattern, just finished my 2nd scarf in 2days !! A complete inspiration - thank you.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant pattern, 2 done and number 3 onhook already
ReplyDeleteI hope this isn't a repeat post - not sure what happened to the first! I just finished my first scarf and it came up really short. Used an H hook and med weight yarn. It is such a pretty scarf and I want it to look right. I counted 32 rows before I started the edging so am very confused. Any thoughts you have would be much appreciated! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathleen! On medium weight and an H hook it should be slightly bigger than mine. Please message me on my Zooty Owl Facebook page with the exact measurements and a photo of your finished piece - maybe that will give me some insight as to why it turned out smaller!
DeleteLoving the Road Trip scarf!!! Thanks for sharing it with the world. But how do you attach the flowers to such an open mesh item??? The flowers on my scarf just droop there, don't look nice at all.
ReplyDeleteMy flowers are quite small and I used very lightweight beads. I attach them where the stitches form a cross (with a crossover stitch) - that secures them nicely and they cannot move around
DeleteLove this pattern. Thanks.. <3
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern. Started it on the same day I saw it. Using RED HEART SUPER SAVER and H hook.On row 27, I'm at 100cm wide by 47cm long Any idea why my measurements are so far off?
ReplyDeleteSuper Saver is 10ply yarn so that would account for the difference in size - if you are still unsure please message me a photo on my Zooty Owl Facebook page so that I can have a look!
DeleteThis may be somewhere WAY up the comment chain, but why use two different size hooks? My scarf us coming out great, just curious. Love the pattern!
ReplyDeleteI like to start my triangles off with a hook size smaller than what I am using for the rest of the scarf. I find it gives the fabric a neater / firmer start - (sort of the reverse idea of working your foundation chain with a larger hook than the rest of your design - if you know what I mean?)
DeleteI finally got my road trip scarf started and finished! Thank you for the wonderful pattern. You can see pictures of it on my blog here, and I linked back to yours as well! Thank you again! http://thebuttonbuffalo.blogspot.ca/
ReplyDeleteLovely! I went and had a peek and left you a comment!
DeleteThank you for the Road Trip Scarf pattern. Im just starting back after having a total shoulder replacement and this is ideal. Just completed row 6. So delighted to be hooking again. Many thanks.
ReplyDeleteI just finished row 6 as well! This is my lazy Sunday afternoon project! I can't wait to see how it turns out! :) Thanks so much for sharing your patten!
ReplyDeleteSo I did this lovely scarf. By any chance, do you have a headband to match? I think it would look so cute with a matching headband or hat.
ReplyDeleteI have not made headbands as yet! Gives me an idea......
DeleteI just finished this and absolutely love how simple and beautiful it is. The edging is brilliant! Thank you for sharing the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI'm now on my sixth road trip scarf. I'm addicted and I might even keep this one for me! Thank you for such a great pattern.
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern! I never do the same pattern twice, unless its a dishcloth, and I've made 7 and counting! I do just love the simplicity of it! I wore one this weekend to a wedding and then to the mall and I got so many compliments on it! Just my absolute favorite! :)
ReplyDeleteJust making my first road trip scarf, its so relaxing and I cant wait to wear it ! Thank you for the instructions.

ReplyDeleteI have several people asking me to make them... don you mund if people maake them and sell them?
Hi Mel! No, not at all (as long as you link any reference to the pattern itself back to me!
ReplyDeleteI am making this for my sister who is moving from Austen to Chicago. I hope it will help her to be stylishly warm in her down coat!
ReplyDeleteJust finished mine yesterday and will post on your FB page. Love the pattern!
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely delighted with this pattern. I started my first last night and now (5.30pm) I'm on the final row. Just flowers and bits to finish. I can't thank you enough for sharing what will be wonderful Christmas gifts for my special friends. Thank you xx
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern and am totally enjoying making the scarf. I'll definately be making more than one of these lovely scarfs. Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteI love you scarves. Wanting to make some but not sure where to find the yarns you used. Would you mind letting me know. Can't wait to start.
ReplyDeleteI used South African yarns to make mine - unfortunately these are only available in SA. However, Stylecraft Merry-go-Round and Red Heart Boutique are an excellent alternative
DeleteWhen I saw this scarf on Pinterest I was over the moon. What a beauty. Well I have been all over the web searching for yarn. Finally settled on several different lots. RH -Unforgettable in parrot. Deborah Norville everyday in Valentine and flashback. What I wouldn't give for the Elle in hunter (OMG). Will post on FB when finished. Thank you for your talent and sharing. Claudette NYC (US)
ReplyDeleteHave been looking at this pattern for months and finally feel confident enough to give it a try - I am a plus sized woman and a beginner crocheter - could you please explain how to make it bigger for my size (in detail) ?
ReplyDeleteI just love your scarves, the combination of colors is so beautiful. I wish I could make the exact color and yarn you have used but I can't find Elle brand here.
ReplyDeleteHave a look at the Stylecraft Merry-Go-Round variegated yarns - some really pretty ones. Also Sirdar Crofter! Very wide range of colours. The Red Heart Boutique yarns are also quite spectacular!
DeleteThanks for your patterns. I don´t know which of them I want to do first. All of them are wonderful! Thanks for sharing. I knew your blog through Lucy from Attic. Congratulations!!!! Neide from Brazil
ReplyDeleteBah...your site ate my comment!

Dedri
Dankie Dedri! Waardeer dit baie!!
DeleteI don't know what keeps happening to my comments here.I'll try once more.
ReplyDeleteWould Lion Brand Homespun Vineyard, Weight 5, Hook K work for this? Would I need to make adjustments? My daughters are 6', would I need to add extra rows/
Thanks for the beautiful patterns!
HI! I have made the scarf with yarn weight 4 (Aran / 10 ply) - I would suggest using a bigger hook than a K so that the fabric is softer and looser (perhaps an "L" which is an 8.00mm hook) - the pattern rows are a repeat so if working with thinner yarn crochet more rows - with bulky yarn crochet less rows. Always end with an even row number that way your stitch count should work out perfectly on your border rounds. About 14 - 16 rows in bulky yarn should be sufficient to fit a young child.
DeleteI love this pattern and its so easy to follow! Thanks so much for sharing it. I've made one and now I want to make some more in different colors!
ReplyDeleteJust saw this and can't wait to try it this weekend. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful talent! Have a blessed weekend!
